This cardboard nuc box securely fits four deep frames and has a perforated bottom entrance flap. The cardboard comes treated to resist water, increasing the durability of the box. It is, however, recommended that you prevent your nuc box from getting wet as much as possible.

The mesh on the lid allows for ventilation inside the nuc during transport.

This is a very economical & lightweight alternative to wooden nuc boxes for making splits and transporting nucleus colonies or swarms.

4 frame cardboard nucs

I bought the ventilated tops because they were on sale and less expensive. These are advertised as waxed. However they really do not seem like they are. I have corrugated plastic signs covering them as the bees are building up before selling. However even with these plastic signs keeping the rain off of them they take in water and become weak. I generally buy the waxed five frames from man Lake which are very sturdy and the rain beads off of them because they are well waxed. The first one I assembled I had to tape the screen down because it was coming off the lid. Yesterday when I checked on them the first one I opened the screen portion easily slipped right off. I had to put another lid on it. Although I like The Notches at the top that hold the frames these boxes are not tall enough because the frame sit on the bottom. There is no b space therefore I do not feel comfortable pulling frames to examine because when you put them back in you're going to smash bees because of them touching the bottoms. I'm not happy with these at all. The only way they could be used safely is to let the bees build up in a regular high body and then place them directly in these the night before the customer picks up. They just do not hold up with moisture at all.

We always want our customers to be satisfied. Any time youhave an issue with anything please feel free to email or call and we will certainly make things right with you.
Our 4-frame vented cardboard nuc boxes as listed on the website are treated to resist water, the cardboard enhances durability, although it's advisable to minimize exposure to moisture. The cardboard is waxed infused and pressed, which make the boxes resistant to water, however it is different from plastic or polypropylene boxes. This allows more affordability and flexibility.
They are designed for standard Langstroth deep frames, which when assembled properly allow for adequate bee space below the frames without having too much movement or space for burr comb to build up.
We don't recommend placing the nuc boxes directly on the ground, and we and our nuc suppliers have successfully maintained our vented nucs on pallets for sometimes weeks at a time on pallets, and covered with light plywood covers to protect from both sun and rain with few issues.

Cardboard Nuc Boxes

Hidden Hollow Honey answered all my questions promptly. They were very patient and knowledgeable and accommodating. We picked up two bundles of nuc boxes and they met us in the parking lot at the Muncie beekeeping conference. Their prices were reasonable and I would definitely shop from them again.

Thank you! It is our pleasure.
